The recent announcement of AEW Collision has now taken up Saturday nights on the schedule for most wrestling fans.
With almost all days of the week now occupied by wrestling, it’s hard to imagine any more wrestling content airing.
However, if it were up to WWE CEO Nick Khan, there would be even more, a WWE show on every day of the week.
Speaking at the MoffettNathanson’s Inaugural Technology, Media and Telecom Conference, Khan said that he would want WWE to produce content on every day of the week, as long as there is a unique product for it.
Specifically, Khan then said that there had been ‘internal discussions’ about starting a lucha libre show.
He said:
“Ideally for us, we would go every day of the week, as long as there is a unique product we can put on the air and resonate. Something we’ve discussed internally; lucha libre, which is big in Mexico and Latin America, to start something like that down the road.
“This would be well after US and UK media rights are settled, the synergies are all in place and we have our legs under us with [TKO Group], that’s something that’s interesting to us, especially with the growing Hispanic audience in the US. We over-index in the Hispanic community already with our English content. To target that is something of interest for us.”
WWE has a lot of Lucha stars on their roster right now, including Dragon Lee, Rey Mysterio and the entire Latino World Order.
The company recently held Backlash in Puerto Rico, which saw Bad Bunny pick up a victory against Damian Priest.
