Nick Khan Says WWE Intentionally Keeps Politics Out Of Storylines

WWE President Nick Khan has revealed the reason why WWE doesn’t intentionally book political “left vs right” stories.

In an interview with Recode Media, Nick Khan was asked about using political division for WWE storylines. Noting that WWE is intended to provide an escape from reality, Khan said:

“They might enjoy that, but we’ve intentionally kept it out. There are so many divisive things in the country right now; masks, shots, the whole experience. If we can stay away from that and offer a place to come where you don’t have to think about those things…even the news has shifted to left vs. right, Trump vs. anti-Trump. Anything to get away from that, which is what our product is part of, ‘here is an escape from reality,’ that’s what we’re going to do.”

Later, the host recalled Daniel Bryan’s WWE Championship run as a eco-friendly heel. Pointing out that he wasn’t in his current role when that story unfolded, Khan noted:

“I remember the storyline, it was before I got there. He had an environmentally friendly belt with no gold because gold was being mined in places where you don’t want to mine gold. I think it worked for a while and then we got out of that space.”

It has been heavily speculated that Daniel Bryan will debut for AEW at the upcoming September 22 New York show. Bryan hasn’t wrestled since his Universal Title match with Roman Reigns in April.

On last night’s episode of AEW Rampage, CM Punk returned to wrestling, challenging Darby Allin to a match at All Out next month. Following the show, Allin took to the ring to address Punk’s words.
