AEW President Tony Khan has commented on the in-ring future of Nigel McGuinness following his shock inclusion in the All In London Casino Gauntlet match.
Much of the discussion amongst fans ahead of AEW All In London was in regards to what big surprises could take place in the Casino Gauntlet match.
While the AEW debut of Ricochet lived up to fans’ expectations, one appearance that took everyone off guard was that of AEW commentator Nigel McGuinness – entering the ring for the first time in 13 years.
At the AEW All In London post-show media scrum Tony Khan answered a question regarding McGuinness’ status, to which he revealed that McGuinness would be continuing on commentary after his in-ring return.
McGuinness himself was quizzed about his unlikely return in a backstage digital exclusive interview with Alicia Atout, to which he said:
“What you saw tonight was a long time coming you know what I mean? 13 years since I was in the ring and 32 years since I was in this stadium and first had that dream, and that epiphany that somehow I was going to be a professional wrestler.
“And there was a good portion of my life, after I had retired 13 years ago that I just had to put that to bed, you know? You get some things and you have to look at the positives, and you know when we first found out we were coming to Wembley and that was a possibility, you know, like I said what you saw tonight was only a short part of it.
“Its been a year and a half that I’ve been thinking about that moment, walking out in front of my home crowd and it was surreal it really was. I’m still not, I still can’t believe it really happened, you know what I mean? But the show’s over now and I took my shot, I shot my shot as they say and it didn’t pay off but I will take with me a memory for the rest of my life.
“You never know how life’s going to work out and I think of anything it proves there’s always hope.”

Despite the fans being behind both McGuinness and new AEW signing Ricochet, the Casino Gauntlet match was later won by Christian Cage with the help of Killswitch.
