Having announced her retirement from the ring back in March, Nikki Bella has now revealed the reason she is stepping away from the ring for good.
Speaking alongside her sister Brie on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Nikki admitted that she wanted to return to the ring following her Evolution main event defeat to Ronda Rousey but doctors told her she was finished.
Nikki says she wanted to go back to WWE and compete for the new Women’s Tag Team Titles but that when she went for a check-up on her neck – which she has had surgery on several times – she received the bad news:
“I’ve always had my neck issues and after neck surgery, it hasn’t been okay. So I felt like I needed to get a checkup before we went back for the tag titles.
The results came back and I herniated the disc above where I had surgery, I have all this inflammation around the metal and then I have a cyst on my brain.
So they were like, ‘You’re done, no more. You’re out.’ So I didn’t get a choice.”
Since retirement, Nikki and Brie have launched their own podcast called The Bellas Podcast, which is available here.
