More details have emerged on scrapped plans for Seth Rollins to win the WWE Championship at WWE Day 1.
Brock Lesnar won the WWE Title during the January 1 pay-per-view, added after his scheduled opponent, Universal Champion Roman Reigns, tested positive for COVID-19 on the day of the event.
Following Lesnar’s shock title victory, Dave Meltzer reported that original plans were for Seth Rollins to walk out of Atlanta with the gold.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Meltzer stated that Rollins was moved from SmackDown to Raw in the WWE Draft, with a plan in mind to have Rollins defeat Big E for the WWE Championship.
A Rollins WWE Title defence was reportedly pencilled in to headline one night of WrestleMania 38, with Meltzer speculating that Rollins was likely going to defend against the winner of the Royal Rumble, with Big E as a favorite.
Recent reports have stated that plans for the WWE and Universal Championship matches at WrestleMania, as well as plans for Lesnar and Reigns’ feud, will remain the same, despite Lesnar’s WWE Championship win.
The Beast is set to defend the WWE Title against Bobby Lashley at Royal Rumble later this month.
