New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) has announced a couple of new tournaments that are bound to have championship implications.
The first of these is the New Japan Cup USA, an eight man tournament following which the winner will get a shot at the IWGP United States Championship.
The promotion announced the tourney on its website, writing:
On August 7, NJPW STRONG makes its hotly anticipated debut on NJPW World. Starting this new weekly venture hot will be New Japan Cup USA, an eight man single elimination tournament where the winner will have a future opportunity for the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship.
The round 1 matches are as follows, in bracket order:
- Karl Fredericks vs. KENTA
- Jeff Cobb vs. Tanga Loa
- David Finlay vs. Chase Owens
- Brody King vs. Tama Tonga
All four first round matches will air on the August 7 episode of STRONG.
NJPW has also announced another tournament though, this one being for the NEVER 6-Man Tag Team Championship after EVIL defected from Los Igobernables De Japon and the titles were vacated.
The round 1 matches are as follows, again in bracket order:
- CHAOS (Kazuchika Okada, SHO & Toru Yano) vs. BULLET CLUB (Yujiro Takahashi, Jado & Gedo)
- Los Ingobernables De Japon (Shingo Takagi, SANADA & BUSHI) vs. Suzuki-Gun (Minoru Suzuki, El Desperado & DOUKI)
- Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kota Ibushi & Master Wato vs. Suzuki-Gun (Zack Sabre Junior, Taichi & Yoshinobu Kanemaru)
- Togi Makabe, Tomoaki Honma & Ryusuke Taguchi vs. CHAOS (Hirooki Goto, Tomohiro Ishii & YOSHI-HASHI)
