NJPW Best of the Super Juniors Lineup Confirmed

New Japan Pro Wrestling has revealed the lineup for the 2018 edition of the Best of the Super Juniors tournament.

The participants in this year’s tournament will be IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay, KUSHIDA, Marty Scurll, Hiromu Takahashi, BUSHI, Flip Gordon, Sho, Yoh, Dragon Lee, El Desperado, Yoshinobu Kanemaru, Tiger Mask IV, ACH, Chris Sabin, Ryusuke Taguchi, and newly re-debuted Taiji Ishimori.

Block A will be comprised of Ospreay, Tiger Mask IV, ACH, Kanemaru, Gordon, BUSHI, Yoh, and Ishimori.

Block B will include KUSHIDA, Takahashi, Scurll, Sho, Dragon Lee, Desperado, Sabin, and Taguchi.

Thirteen of the sixteen competitors were unofficially revealed by an advertisement for the tournament a few weeks ago, with ACH, Sabin, and Ishimori now being confirmed as the remaining three.

The tournament will commence on May 18 at Korakuen Hall and will continue for nearly three weeks before concluding on June 4. The winner of the tournament will likely challenge Ospreay for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship at Dominion on June 9.

The other possible scenario is that Ospreay himself wins the tournament and chooses his own challenger for the event. In the event that this occurs, Rey Mysterio Jr. has been confirmed for the Dominion show and Ospreay has expressed his desire to wrestle Mysterio for the title in the past.

The tournament is known for its elite level of junior heavyweight competition, with last year’s tournament being called the best in history. KUSHIDA defeated Will Ospreay in the finals of last year’s tournament before going on to defeat then-IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Hiromu Takahashi to win the title at last year’s Dominion.
