Rising Star Moves Behind WWE’s Andrade To Make NJPW History WWE

Following the G1 Climax 34 qualifier tournament, rising star Callum Newman has moved behind WWE’s Andrade to make NJPW history.

New Japan Pro Wrestling has encountered a great amount of change in 2024 after the departures of Kazuchika Okada and Will Ospreay.

With this year’s G1 Climax 34 tournament on the horizon, the company implemented a qualifier tournament for the final two spots in the A and B Block.

On the July 5 NJPW Soul event, the finals of the qualifier tournament took place and saw history being made.

In the G1 Climax 34 A Block Qualifier Finals, United Empire’s Callum Newman defeated YOSHI-HASHI to move on to the A Block of this year’s tournament.

With his win, Newman has become the second youngest star to compete in the G1 at just 21 years old, only behind WWE star Andrade, who competed in the tournament when he was known as La Sombra.

Newman will compete in the G1 Climax 34 A Block with Tetsuya Naito, Shota Umino, Shingo Takagi, SANADA, Great-O-Khan, Zack Sabre Jr., Gabe Kidd, NOAH’s Jake Lee and EVIL.

Meanwhile, the G1 Climax 34 B Block Qualifier Finals saw former NJPW young lion Boltin Oleg beating Taichi to qualify for his first time in the premier tournament of the company.

Oleg will now compete in the B Block with El Phantasmo, Hirooki Goto, Yota Tsuji, Yuya Uemura, Jeff Cobb, HENARE, David Finlay, Ren Narita and AEW’s Konosuke Takeshita.

This is part of the big change in direction for NJPW, which you can read at this link here.

WrestleTalk will provide any further updates from the G1 Climax 34 tournament when they become available.
