NJPW Championships Change Hands At Honor Rising

New Japan Pro Wrestling’s latest event, Honor Rising, featured a title change. The IWGP Tag Team Championships were won by Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa when they defeated the former champions EVIL and SANADA.

This marks the fifth IWGP Tag Team Championship reign for the Guerrillas of Destiny. They lost the titles to EVIL and SANADA in a three-way match also featuring the Young Bucks at Wrestle Kingdom 13. Since then, EVIL and SANADA successfully defended the titles against Zack Sabre Jr. and Minoru Suzuki.

The match was the semi-main event of the show, with the ROH World Tag Team Championship match closing things out. The Guerrillas of Destiny managed to get the win with the Super Powerbomb.

The win at Honor Rising now sets up a future program with ROH World Tag Team Champions The Briscoes. The two teams squared off at the end of the show, setting up a match at G1 Supercard. This is the first official match announced for the upcoming show at Madison Square Garden, however the main event will still feature Jay White defending the IWGP Heavyweight Championship against the winner of the New Japan Cup.
