NJPW Star Addresses Departure Of Potential WWE Signing WWE/NJPW

An NJPW star whose own contract is set to expire shortly has addressed the recent departure of a potential WWE signing.

It was recently confirmed that EVIL was parting ways with NJPW, following reports that the former IWGP Heavyweight Champion was “strongly rumored” to be joining WWE.

EVIL isn’t the only NJPW name to look at options elsewhere, with David Finlay’s contract also set to expire, and options in the United States reportedly being explored.

Speaking to NJPW, Finlay has shared his thoughts on the departure of EVIL, who last competed at Road To the New Beginning on January 20.

Referencing EVIL losing the NEVER Openweight Championship, Finlay said:

“EVIL? He got beat by an Olympic gold medalist and quit out of shame.”

Aaron Wolf would be the Olympic gold medalist who debuted at Wrestle Kingdom 20, defeating EVIL for the NEVER Openweight Championship on the January 4 show.

Commenting on Wolf’s performance, Finlay continued:

“Great athlete, Olympic gold medalist, but it was his first ever pro-wrestling match.

“If I lost to someone in their very first match in front of a sold out Tokyo Dome, I’d quit out of shame too.”

This wouldn’t be the only time that EVIL and Wolf crossed paths, with the medalist teaming with Master Wato, Toru Yano & YOH in a win over House of Torture (EVIL, Dick Togo, Ren Narita & Yujiro Takahashi) at Road To the New Beginning.

EVIL would depart NJPW following the expiry of his contract in January.
