NJPW Destruction Matches Announced

NJPW Destruction Matches Announced

By Jamal Niaz

After dominating the summer with Omega vs. Okada IV at Dominion and the G1 Climax, NJPW is already preparing to take the rest of the year by storm as they have announced three stacked Destruction cards for September.

The trio of events begins in Hiroshima on September 15 with the marquee match being Kenny Omega defending his IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against Tomohiro Ishii. Ishii recently beat Omega during a grueling battle on Night 14 of the G1 and with the title on the line this time you can expect that battle to be twice as fierce.

Destruction continues on September 17 in Beppu with Tetsuya Naito going up against Minoru Suzuki. Given the reputation of both men, don’t be surprised if New Japan produces another classic with this one. Also on this show, Hirooki Goto will be defending his NEVER Openweight Championship against Taichi.

The final show takes place on September 23 with Hiroshi Tanahashi putting his Wrestlekingdom IWGP World Title opportunity on the line against long-time rival Kazuchika Okada. The two superstars have already produced two five-star quality matches this year and will more than likely add another at this event.

In addition, the four-man tournament for the vacant IWGP Jr Heavyweight Championship will begin on the final night with Kushida going up against Bushi. Will Ospreay and Marty Scurll face off in the other semi-final in L.A on September 29.
