NJPW Fighting Spirit Unleashed Adds Three Matches

Three matches have been made official for New Japan Pro Wrestling‘s next show in Long Beach, California, Fighting Spirit Unleashed.

Cody is set to challenge Juice Robinson for the IWGP United States Championship, the Young Bucks will defend the IWGP Tag Team Championships against Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa, and Will Ospreay will face Marty Scurll in a first-round match of the recently announced IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship tournament.

Cody attacked Robinson following Juice’s match at the G1 Climax Final, calling him a Kairi Sane wannabe. The match will be Robinson’s first defense of the IWGP United States Championship since winning it from Jay White at G1 Special in San Francisco. Robinson competed in the G1 Climax tournament, finishing with a measly six points.

The Young Bucks will be defending their championships against their former Bullet Club stablemates Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa, who turned on the Bullet Club at G1 Climax in San Francisco. The Tongans ran roughshod over the G1 Climax as they interfered in every match involving Tama Tonga or Bad Luck Fale. Tama Tonga also found himself in hot water after choking a fan, using excessive cursing, and posting offensive tweets.

New Japan Pro Wrestling has announced that they will hold a four-man tournament to crown a new IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion following Hiromu Takahashi’s neck injury from G1 Special in San Francisco. Will Ospreay and Marty Scurll will compete on one side at Fighting Spirit Unleashed, a rematch of their five-star match from Sakura Genesis earlier this year.

Fighting Spirit Unleashed is set to take place at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, California on September 30.
