Kota Ibushi has won the A Block of New Japan Pro Wrestling’s G1 Climax. He defeated Kazuchika Okada in the main event of G1 Climax Day 17 to win the block.
This marks the second straight year that Ibushi has reached the tournament final. However, last year he was unable to win the tournament as he fell to Hiroshi Tanahashi. He will have his opportunity to avenge that loss on August 12th.
Ibushi finished the block competition with 14 points and a 7-2-0 record. While Okada’s record was identical, Ibushi reached the finals due to winning the tiebreaker over the IWGP Heavyweight Champion.
Tomorrow we will see who Ibushi will face in the tournament final. While the A Block was concise, the B Block is much more complicated as we approach its final day of competition. Jon Moxley, Hirooki Goto, Jay White and Tetsuya Naito are all tied atop the standings and could all make it to the final under the right circumstances.
We will provide live coverage for the B Block Final as we have for the entire G1 Climax tournament.
