NJPW Reaction To CM Punk Attending Battle In The Valley AEW

A new report has revealed NJPW’s reaction to CM Punk attending their Battle In The Valley event.

As previously reported, CM Punk was spotted in the crowd at NJPW Battle In The Valley after not appearing for All Elite Wrestling since the events following the All Out pay-per-view in September 2022.

Fightful Select (subscription required) has provided an update, noting that those in New Japan Pro Wrestling were not aware that Punk was going to attend their Battle In The Valley show.

Despite not being aware of his attending, NJPW would have welcomed him regardless.

Sources in NJPW just didn’t want All Elite Wrestling to think they were conspiring against a partner, which was cleared up quickly.

The only people who had any knowledge Punk was going to the NJPW Battle In The Valley event were Lars Frederiksen, who he went with, Punk’s close friend and the former Lou E. Dangerously in ECW, Lou D’Angeli and Rob Naylor.

Frederiksen had asked Rocky Romero if he and a friend could attend the show back in January, but it was set up without New Japan knowing it would be Punk with him.

The report also notes that Punk wanted to go to the event and support Mercedes Moné’s debut match in NJPW.

On Thursday, CM Punk took to his Instagram stories to respond to Dave Meltzer’s claim on the booking of Punk vs. Jon Moxley on the August 24 AEW Dynamite, blasting AEW, Tony Khan and others in a now-deleted post.

As previously reported, the same report has details on meetings between Punk and Tony Khan and the backstage reaction to Punk’s Instagram post.

Many further details on the CM Punk/AEW issues have emerged along with this report – check out all the updates at this link.
