NJPW Reveals Best Of The Super Junior 26 Participants

New Japan Pro Wrestling has revealed 19 of the 20 participants who will compete in this year’s Best of the Super Junior tournament. The announcement took place in a video on the company’s Japanese YouTube channel.

There will be 20 competitors in this year’s tournament, up from last year’s 16. The Best of the Super Junior tournament will feature junior heavyweight wrestlers from New Japan, Ring of Honor, and CMLL. The winner will receive a title match against the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion.

The 19 confirmed participants in the tournament are as follows:

  • Ryusuke Taguchi
  • Tiger Mask IV
  • Rocky Romero
  • SHO
  • YOH
  • Will Ospreay
  • Taiji Ishimori
  • El Desperado
  • Taka Michinoku
  • Yoshinobu Kanemaru
  • BUSHI
  • Flip Gordon
  • Titan
  • Marty Scurll
  • Dragon Lee
  • Robbie Eagles
  • Jonathan Gresham
  • Bandido
  • Shingo Takagi

There are several changes from last year’s lineup. ACH, Chris Sabin, KUSHIDA, and last year’s winner Hiromu Takahashi all competed in the 2018 tournament and will not be returning. Rocky Romero, TAKA Michinoku, Titan, Robbie Eagles, Jonathan Gresham, Bandido, and Shingo Takagi will be taking their spots and expanding the bracket to 20 people.

The final participant was presented as “X” in the graphics. However, this will likely end up being El Phantasmo based on New Japan’s vignettes. New Japan has also announced that the final entrant will be revealed at Wrestling Dontaku on May 4th.

Best of the Super Junior 26 will taken place from May 13th until June 5th. Every show will be broadcast live and will feature English commentary. The final event will take place at Sumo Hall.
