We are one step closer to finding out who will challenge for FTR’s IWGP Tag Team Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 17.
We now know who will face off in the finals of the NJPW World Tag League tournament.
On December 14, Mark Davis & Kyle Fletcher of Aussie Open will battle Hirooki Goto & YOSHI-HASHI of Bishamon to determine the tournament winners.
Both teams finished round robin block action with 14 points. Aussie Open’s only losses in the tournament came at the hands of TMDK and Tetsuya Naito & SANADA of LIJ.
Bishamon was defeated by Hiroshi Tanahashi & Toru Yano and TMDK also, but won all of their other bouts in block action.
The winner of the tournament finals will challenge for the IWGP Tag Team Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 17 on January 4, 2023.
AEW stars Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler of FTR currently hold the gold.
FTR notably defended the title against Aussie Open at Royal Quest II in October, in a bout which many consider a match of the year contender.
FTR recently suffered a major defeat, losing the ROH Tag Team Title to The Briscoes at the ROH Final Battle pay-per-view.
Following reports that Sasha Banks will be appearing at Wrestle Kingdom 17, an update has emerged on the former WWE Women’s Champion’s NJPW status.
