No. 1 Contender For Cruiserweight Title Crowned On NXT

On the WWE Network portion of Tonight’s Live NXT, it was announced that Oney Lorcan would face a returning Lio Rush to determine a new number one contender for the Cruiserweight Championship.

It was a bit of a surprise Lio Rush would be given a chance at the title having been gone from WWE for six month.  This is especially true given the way Rush left.

Lorcan himself didn’t take to kindly to Rush being given a chance Oney didn’t feel he deserved. He came out fired up in the match and took out Rush with some massive uppercuts and a blockbuster right out of the gate.

However, Rush didn’t stay down for long. Rush was able to hit 3 beautiful, consecutive Suicide Dives to Lorcan on the outside.  The two men went back and forth in a fantastic match.

It looked like Lorcan was going to pick up the victory when Rush almost passed out in an STF.  However, Rush was able to get out of the move.

Rush eventually hits a frog splash on Lorcan and picks up the huge victory.  With the win, Lio Rush becomes the new Number 1 Contender for Drew Gulak’s Cruiserweight Championship.

They did not announce when the match was going to take place.  However, it’s good to see someone as talented as Lio Rush back in the ring.  Let’s hope he can keep out of trouble and reach his full potential now that he’s returned.
