Report: ‘Nobody Knew’ CM Punk Would Call Out Adam Page, ‘A Lot Of Reality To It’ AEW

Last night, CM Punk cut his first promo on AEW Dynamite since suffering a broken foot over two months ago, and he’s already made headlines.

Before Punk turned his attention to Jon Moxley and their upcoming match, Punk called out Adam Page for a rematch of their title match at Double Or Nothing and said it was “coward s**t” (a spin on Page’s catchphrase “cowboy s**t”) when he didn’t come out.

Well, there’s a good reason he didn’t come out, and that’s because Punk went into business for himself, and nobody knew he was going to say that.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said:

“If you’re wondering about the CM Punk thing at the start of the show with Adam Page… that was weird, for everyone. As in, nobody knew he was going to do that.

“If you remember months ago when they were feuding, and I said there was a lot of reality to it – well, there’s a lot of reality to it.

“So, I don’t know what the deal was, and nobody else does either, but… Punk was supposed to go out there and talk about Moxley and build the match, and he did… after he talked about Adam Page.

“They may build something from it down the line, but it’s not scheduled for this pay-per-view, and nobody knew he was gonna do it.”

There was one particular incident during the Punk/Page feud a few months ago where Page pretty much said he was fighting on behalf of AEW to defend it against Punk, and it all seemed a little bit out of place, and this seems to be the continuing fallout from that.

Either way, it was spicy, and by all accounts, it was real.

Punk will face Jon Moxley next week on Dynamite – not at All Out – in an AEW World Championship unification match.
