In the opener for tonight’s special Heatwave edition of NXT 2.0, the North American Championship was on the line.
Champ Carmelo Hayes defended his North American Championship against Giovanni Vinci in the first of three big championship battles set for tonight’s episode (August 16)
With the crowd chanting wildly for Vinci after he took a monsterous flying leap off the top rope to collide with Williams and Hayes below, it seemed he may be able to pick up the win.
Unfortunately, he was still not able to capture the pinfall victory after Trick Williams put Melo’s foot up on the ropes much to the crowd’s chagrin.
After a continued back and forth with Vinci taking out Trick with a big powerbomb, he tried the same on Hayes but was met by a giant counter.
Hayes was able to reverse and capture the pinfall victory to retain his North American Championship.
With rumors of tonight’s Heatwave being notable and newsworthy, particularly as it regards to setting in motion who will be remaining on NXT versus graduating to the main roster, could the North American Champion be drafted at the rumored upcoming WWE Draft?
