Number 1 Contender’s Match Announced For AEW Dynamite

Earlier today, AEW announced another match for Wednesday Night’s Dynamite.  Darby Allin and Jimmy Havoc will fight for the chance to fight to face Chris Jericho for the AEW World Heavyweight Championship.

Whomever wins will get their match next week October 16, 2019.  The match does not have any stipulations at this point.

It will be interesting to watch Havoc and Allin have a traditional match.  When they faced off at All Out, there were no disqualifications.  Why are they getting the shot, here is the answer from Cody himself:

It will be hard to work in Cracker Barrels, thumb tacks, and spiked skate boards in a match with regular rules.  However, both men are completely capable of having really, really good matches within the confines of a traditional match.

Allin has already proven how good he can be in his match with Cody earlier this year in AEW.  Jimmy Havoc hasn’t had the same opportunity to spotlight himself in a similar match in AEW.

However, if you are familiar with him at all, you will know he can actually do much more than the hardcore, death-match stuff he’s known for.

Either way, I would expect both men to push the match to its limits and try to put on a show.  This will be both men’s introduction to live television programming in the US.

We also know Dustin Rhodes and Hangman Page will be facing off with Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara.  Here is the card we know so far:

  • Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara vs. Hangman Page & Dustin Rhodes
  • Darby Allin vs. Jimmy Havoc (winner challenges for Jericho’s AEW World title on next week’s episode of Dynamite)
  • The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) vs. Private Party (Marq Quen & Isiah Kassidy) in an AEW Tag Team title tournament first-round match
  • Jon Moxley vs. Shawn Spears
