NWA and ROH Announce 2019 Crockett Cup Partnership

The National Wrestling Alliance and Ring of Honor have announced that they will be partnering to present the 2019 Crockett Cup. The Crockett Cup is a tag team tournament designed to honor the memory of wrestling promoter Jim Crockett Sr. The event will take place at the Cabarrus Arena in Concord, North Carolina on April 27th, 2019.

The event was announced at the NWA 70th Anniversary show, where Nick Aldis defeated Cody to regain the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship. None of the participants have been announced for the tournament as of now, however the first qualifying match will take place this Saturday at the NWA’s event in Clarksville, Tennessee.

The event will be taking place just weeks after Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling present the G1 Supercard in Madison Square Garden. More information regarding the event will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Crockett Cup was a tournament was originally a joint venture of Jim Crockett Promotions and Mid-South Wrestling in 1986. The two promotions came together to produce a tournament in honor of the late Jim Crockett Sr., a tournament that was won by the Road Warriors. The Road Warriors defeated Ronnie Garvin and Magnum TA to win the inaugural tournament and they were followed by winners Dusty Rhodes & Nikita Koloff in 1987, and Lex Luger & Sting in 1988.
