NXT Call-Up Going Back To NXT?

NXT Call-Up Going Back To NXT?

WWE fans were treated to four sudden NXT call-ups on February 18, with NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa, former NXT North America Champion Johnny Gargano, Ricochet and Aleister Black all being given the boot up to the main roster.

While the last two names on that little list look to be cemented as main roster acts, it’s a bit more complicated for Gargano and Ciampa.

They had been called up as DIY, the team Ciampa destroyed when he turned on Gargano at the end of 2017, with Vince seemingly oblivious to the story he was ruining by having them like each other again.

They looked set, like Ricochet and Black, to become a tag act, but following Ciampa’s neck injury and subsequent surgery, plans may well have been scrapped for Gargano to continue on the main roster.

Without Ciampa, Johnny is left without a partner and without a main roster storyline, so it just makes sense to send him back to NXT for a while. He won’t lose anything by doing it, and in fact he’ll probably gain a lot.

***NXT SPOILERS COMING AFTER VIDEO***

Johnny Gargano will take on Adam Cole for the vacant NXT Championship at NXT TakeOver: New York on April 5, after Cole defeated Ricochet, Black, Velveteen Dream and Matt Riddle in a Fatal-5-Way at the latest tapings.

Whether Gargano wins this or not, it’s an easy way of keeping him in the NXT main event picture for the foreseeable future.
