NXT returned to the road for a spate of shows this weekend. First they made a pit-stop in Sanford, Florida on Thursday evening and last night they journeyed Tampa, Florida to entertain the masses.
Unusually for live events, the yellow brand’s outings have had a storyline running through them as of late. First it was the development of Kassius Ohno who showed a different attitude by demanding a second opponent after defeating Mars Wang. This challenge was met by the terrific Danny Burch. Let’s hope this new side of the ‘Knockout Artist’ makes him relevant again.
This time around, it was the turn of the tag team division to get a show-long tale. With an NXT Tag Team Championship Match announced for the main event of the evening, the Undisputed Era stood without contenders to their impressive throne. That would be remedied when a Number One Contenders Match was slated to open the show.
Nick Miller of the Mighty would face Montez Ford of the Street Profits. The winner’s team would challenge for the doubles gold in the summit of the show. With the popular duo of Ford and Dawkins slated to step-up to Adam Cole’s stooges at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn IV – remember plans can change – Miller secured the Mighty a crack at stardom. Needless to say, they would not leave Tampa with gold.
In results from the show:
- Nick Miller rolled over Montez Ford to earn the Mighty an NXT Tag Team Championship Match later in the evening
- Jessie Elaban, Candice LeRae, and Xia Li best Vanessa Borne, Lacey Evans, and Bianca Belair
- Marcel Barthel bashed Dan Matha
- Danny Burch overwhelmed Tian Bing
- EC3 outclassed Kona Reeves
- The Velveteen Dream smashed Brennan Williams
- Shayna Baszler prevailed over Nikki Cross to retain the NXT Women’s Championship. These are expected to be Cross’ final appearances for the brand before she moves to Smackdown Live on a full-time basis
- Kyle O’Reilly and Roderick Strong outlasted the Mighty to retain the NXT Tag Team Championships
Let us know your thoughts on the current NXT Tag Team Championship scene, Kassius Ohno’s role in the brand and if you think Nikki Cross will thrive on Smackdown Live. You can get in touch with WrestleTalk on Twitter and Discord now.
