NXT Review June 27 2018: “Now it’s time to stand face to face with the devil!”

Candice LeRae vs Lacey Evans is next. That’s quite a straw hat Lacey is wearing. Nigel says she’s been knocking everyone out with the Woman’s Right. I can only remember her using it once, on Kairi Sane. But no matter. This is another really good TV match involving Lacey Evans. Her heel expressions are bob-on and she combines fancy submissions with a bona fide mean streak. Candice, meanwhile, is basically the female version of her husband. She has the same likeability as Johnny Gargano and that rare commodity in pro wrestling – she comes across as a real person. She’s capable in the ring too. Candice wins, in something of an upset, after an Unprettier and a quebrada.

Johnny Wrestling is backstage. His face is so contorted with fury it’s like he’s not been watching his wife just score a massive victory. Johnny acknowledges that Candice is his favourite wrestler but he can’t get Tommaso Ciampa out of his mind. It’s clear he wants a rubber match at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn.

Next, Heavy Machinery are having a barbecue. Sausages and weights! They want a rematch with The Mighty. Who are no longer called TM61. About time, that was the worst tag team name since Tekno Team 2000.

General Manager William Regal has put out a Tweet. He says Johnny Gargano needs to move on from his blood feud with Ciampa and instead he’ll face EC3 next week. Remember Gargano interrupting The One Per Center’s match a few weeks ago? I TOLD YOU they’d make something of that! Continuity, people. It’s the booking spice of life.

Candice cuts a lovely little promo saying that she’s now focussed on her own career after allowing herself to be distracted by her husband’s issues but also says how much he inspires her.
