A NXT star re-signed with WWE prior to their big character change in 2021.
Wendy Choo started in WWE as Karen Q and then Mei Ying before becoming a babyface in her current role.
Per Fightful Select (subscription required), Choo signed a contract extension with WWE in 2021. Fightful was contacted by a WWE higher-up, who noted the company locked her down with a new deal.
The report confirmed that Wendy was offered a new deal before returning to WWE as the Mei Ying character.
WWE were very pleased with Choo’s performance in this new character and in the Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
Wendy Choo formed a partnership with Dakota Kai in the tournament, which continues to this day in their rivalry with Toxic Attraction.
