NXT Star Set For Post-SummerSlam Call-Up

NXT Star Set For Post-SummerSlam Call-Up

Johnny Gargano’s 2018 has been stellar. He garnered WWE‘s first and third ***** matches since 2011. The underdog is also having arguably the best feud of the 2010s opposite former-best friend Tommaso Ciampa. Now, after all his praise, a main-roster call-up may finally be in the books.

This is according to the Twitter account @SliceWrestling, who have broken several stories in the past. They state that ‘Johnny Wrestling’ is currently being considered to join the main roster following this year’s WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view.

Although final decisions for the post-SummerSlam call-ups have yet to be made, Gargano seems the most likely candidate. Daniel Bryan even hinted at the idea while in the role of SmackDown Live‘s General Manager during WrestleMania Axxess.

Bryan’s spiritual successor not being called up to Raw or SmackDown Live before SummerSlam also fuels speculation for his upcoming bout at NXT TakeOver: Chicago II tonight. In their second pay-per-view match, Gargano will face Ciampa in a street fight.

At NXT TakeOver: New Orleans, ‘Johnny Wrestling’ managed to overcome the ‘Blackheart’. In doing so he won what seemed to be their one and only encounter. Now that a second match is set to take place and with no call-up on the cards until after the pre-SummerSlam TakeOver, it seems the obvious plan would be for Ciampa to win tonight. Following this, a rubber match between the pair would take place before the ‘Biggest Party of the Summer’, paving way for Gargano to finally leave NXT.
