NXT Star Suffers Legitimate Injury During Match WWE

During last night’s (September 27) episode of NXT, Wes Lee took on Tony D’Angelo in a North American Title qualifying match, but things didn’t go to plan.

Not long into the match, D’Angelo runs at Wes Lee in the corner, but Lee managed to reverse the move, and D’Angelo hit his right knee on the mat.

D’Angelo immediately clutches his knee, and while it initially looks like he’s selling the move, the referee quickly looks concerned, and D’Angelo stays down a lot longer than expected.

The referee then threw up the dreaded “X” symbol with his arms, which if you weren’t already aware, is a referee’s way of telling people in the back that a wrestler legitimately cannot continue the match.

Last night’s show was pre-taped back on September 14, but WWE opted to air the original unplanned finish of the match with the injury, even showing various replays of it, meaning Wes Lee won by referee stoppage and qualified for the NXT North American Championship ladder match at Halloween Havoc.

Wrestlers and knee injuries often go hand in hand, and unfortunately knee injuries tend to have long recovery times. There haven’t been any announcements regarding the injury, but we will of course let you know as soon as we hear anything.
