The NXT UK roster has gotten bigger today as they have announced the signings of five new wrestlers. The newest signees are Ilja Rukober (FKA Ilja Dragunov), Jazzy Gabert, Kay Lee Ray, Oliver Sauter (FKA Oliver Carter), and Jay Melrose.
The NXT UK brand continues to develop since their launch in October 2018. These five signees will now expand their roster and provide more potential matches for the future.
Ilja Rukober has spent most of his career working for WXW and PROGRESS. However, he has also made appearances for PWG in the U.S., competing in the 2018 Battle of Los Angeles tournament. In the tournament, he fell to Shingo Takagi in the first round.
Jazzy Gabert should be fairly fresh in the minds of WWE fans, as she competed in the Mae Young Classic in 2017. She is billed at 6’1 so she will undoubtedly bring a different style reflective of her size to the NXT UK women’s division. Kay Lee Ray also competed in the 2017 Mae Young Classic. Like Gabert, she failed to make it passed the first round. However, she clearly left an impression on the WWE brass as she now finds herself in NXT UK.
Oliver Sauter was been competing under the name Oliver Carter across Europe. Over the years he has made appearances for promotions such as PROGRESS and Revolution Pro Wrestling. Prior to competing in wrestling, Sauter was a soccer player.
The final signee is ‘Primate’ Jay Melrose. This signing is more of a formality as Melrose has been appearing on the NXT UK brand since December.
