NXT UK Taping Spoilers – Birmingham, England

NXT UK returned this month with its next set of tapings for the incoming television show which will air later this year on the WWE Network. Last month, the company recorded the first two months of shows in Cambridge, England. Last night they were at the Insomnia Gaming Festival in Birmingham, England.

The main story running through night one was the battle to crown the inaugural NXT UK Women’s Champion. A round robin tournament identical to the Mae Young Classic began with eight of the world’s finest competing for the honor.

In results from the Quarter-Finals of the tournament:

  • Dakota Kai defeated Nina Samuels
  • Jinny best Millie McKenzie
  • Rhea Ripley went over Xia Brookside
  • Tony Storm blasted Isla Dawn

This now leaves us with a Semi-Final bracket of Dakota Kai vs. Rhea Ripley and Jinny vs. Toni Storm, with only one of the competitors actually being British. With the winner slated to defend the championship at WWE Evolution on October 28, Toni Storm is ruled out of the equation thanks to her Mae Young Classic final on the same evening against Io Shirai. The inaugural champion will be crowned this evening.

As well as focusing on the first ever female champion, NXT UK began to build the hype for the first NXT UK Tag Team Champions. Having added a feud between the bloc Coffey Brothers and Wolfgang against Mark Andrews, Flash Morgan Webster, and Ashton Smith last month, the Scottish destroyers picked a fight with British Strong Style during this taping, making themselves the focus of the division.

In results surrounding the NXT UK Tag Team Championship scene:

  • Wolfgang ran through Ashton Smith
  • Zack Gibson cracked Trent Seven. Following the contest, the Coffey Brothers and Wolfgang attacked Seven bringing out Tyler Bate. Unfortunately for Bate, he received the same treatment
  • Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate rolled over Mark Coffey and Wolfgang

This has led many to speculate the possibility of NXT UK 6-Man Tag Team Championships instead of regular doubles gold. Whilst it’s unlikely, it would certainly add a different flavor to the brand.

In results from the rest of the taping:

  • Xavier Woods made a surprise appearance to announce Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate’s inclusion in WWE 2K19
  • Triple H came out to rousing chants to unveil the NXT UK Women’s Championship
  • Killer Kelly went over Charlie Morgan in the Dark Match of the taping
  • Jordan Devlin downed Sid Scala
  • Joseph Conners and Saxon Huxley rolled over Kenny Williams and Amir Jordan
  • Tyler Bate pinned James Drake
  • Tyson T-Bone destroyed Jake Constantino
  • Dave Mastiff crushed Dan Moloney
  • Eddie Dennis best Jack Starz
  • Mark Andrews toppled Wild Boar
  • Jordan Devlin pinned Ligero

The second night of NXT UK television tapings will conclude this evening. Pete Dunne will defend the WWE United Kingdom Championship against a challenger as yet unknown. The brand will also crown its first ever Women’s Champion.
