NXT Women’s Champion Lola Vice has opened up on the importance of being the first Cuban-American champion in WWE.

Lola captured her first singles championship in her WWE career at this past weekend’s NXT Stand & Deliver event in St. Louis, defeating Jacy Jayne and Kendal Grey in a three-way match for the title.

Lola has proudly represented her Cuban heritage during her WWE career, noting that her title win made her the first Cuban-American champion in WWE.

“My grandparents, my mom, my dad, they immigrated to the United States from Cuba, they came to Miami to give me a better life. My whole life, for some reason, I was always born with this passion to represent my culture, and I always knew I was born for big things, but when you look at Cubans and everything happening right now in the world, it’s very sad, and I was fortunate enough to be born in Miami.

“But I always told myself ‘I’m gonna take my life, everything I’ve been through in my life, what my parents and my grandparents went through to get to this country, and I’m going to represent my culture, and I’m going to make it known.

“When I first got to WWE there were several people that told me ‘hey, don’t represent your culture, they’re going to group you’, and I always said ‘I do not care’. I believe in myself, I’m undeniable enough where I’m gonna leave them no choice, but I’m gonna represent my culture and I’m gonna be my own star.
