Punishment Martinez made his NXT debut against Matt Riddle at the end of 2018, but it appears that the next time we see the former ROH star on NXT TV, he will have a new name.
In an interview with Sports Business Journal regarding WWE’s state of the art Performance Center, Martinez revealed his new ring name of Damien Priest. He would go on to add that this new character would be a darker version of the one he has portrayed in other promotions before. He even teased new music and new outfits adding: “I’ve always been into the weird, the odd, the dark, so that’s the character I’ve always represented”.
Priest was also asked if he felt being older than the other NXT stars was a negative, and he had the following to say:
“If I can go at the same level, then age doesn’t matter. As long as I’m doing a little bit more than you, you will never be on my level. I’m not a patient person, but I’m a positive impatient. I’m not willing to just stand by. I’m going to keep pushing until something sticks.”
