NXT’s Kyle O’Reilly Confirmed For PROGRESS Tournament

NXT star Kyle O’Reilly has been confirmed as an entrant in PROGRESS’s annual Super Strong Style 16 (SSS16) tournament, which is scheduled to be held over three days at Alexandra Palace in London between May 4-6.

It is no secret that PROGRESS and WWE have a strong working relationship, with WWE loaning the British group talent on a semi-regular basis and allowing NXT UK wrestlers to work for them regularly. PROGRESS promoters Jim Smallman, Jon Briley and Glen Joseph are also key members of the NXT UK writing team.

PROGRESS confirmed the news via Twitter earlier today:

The other 14 names confirmed for the tournament (with one still to come) are:

  • Lucky Kid – who recent won wXw’s 16 Carat Gold Tournament and was a last 16 participant in WCPW’s (now Defiant Wrestling) 2017 Pro Wrestling World Cup, where he lost to Hiromu Takahashi
  • David Starr – Who has competed in several notable tournaments in recent years, including CZW’s Best of the Best, which he won last year
  • Travis Banks – A former PROGRESS World Champion and current NXT UK star
  • Ilja Dragunov – The winner of the 2018 16 Carat Gold Tournament, a competitor in last year’s PWG Battle Of Los Angeles and the latest addition to the NXT UK roster
  • Trevor Lee – Former Impact X Division Champion and a new NXT recruit
  • Aerostar – Mexican star who won the 2016 Rey de Voladores tournament in CHIKARA
  • Artemis Spencer – Canadian who has wrestled regularly for DEFY in the US in recent years
  • DJZ – Charismatic former Impact X Division Champion who is expected to sign with WWE shortly
  • Jordan Devlin – Sensational Irishman who recently tore the house down with WALTER in OTT and has been making waves of late in NXT UK
  • Chris Ridgeway – One of British wrestling’s hottest prospects and a finalist in the most recent PROGRESS Natural Progression Series, which he lost to Mark Davis
  • Chris Brookes – British indy sensation as a solo act and as one half of the tag team CCK. Made the news last year for publicly rejecting WWE’s advances
  • Darby Allin – Exciting EVOLVE talent who is on the cusp of breaking out as one of the best indy wrestlers in the world
  • Paul Robinson – Veteran British star who has been involved in some much-talked-about death matches with Jimmy Havoc and was recently one half of the PROGRESS Tag Team Champions with Will Ospreay
  • Daga – Mexican star who spent six years with AAA and now works for MLW.

In addition to the tournament, PROGRESS is also advertising a title unification match between World Champion WALTER and Atlas Champion Trent Seven (both of NXT UK, a four-way for the Women’s Title between Jordynne Grace, Millie McKenzie, Nina Samuels and TBA and stars from the wacky monster wrestling group Kaiji Big Battel.
