It was reported this past week that NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa was suffering from a neck injury and would require major surgery. This would not only force him to miss NXT Takeover: New York, as well as WrestleMania 35, but also vacate the NXT Championship.
WWE has confirmed on Twitter that Ciampa underwent ”anterior cervical fusion surgery” to repair his injured neck.

WWE has made no indication on the recovery time for Ciampa, and it is widely expected that they will not rush him back given the serious nature of neck injuries. Regardless, we do know that this injury and the subsequent surgery is major, so WWE fans should not expect to see Ciampa in the ring anytime soon.
It is obviously extremely unfortunate timing for Ciampa, who was not only NXT’s top champion, but had just made his main roster debut alongside best friend turned bitter rival Johnny Gargano. However, it has been reported that WWE has already made plans for Ciampa’s return, whenever that turns out to be, so WWE could have Ciampa return in an impactful manner.
WrestleTalk would like to wish Tommaso Ciampa a speedy recovery and we hope to see him fit and healthy and in competition soon.
