Former NXT Champion Oba Femi has opened up about how he deals with pressure in WWE, ahead of the biggest match of his career.

After dropping Brock Lesnar with a single Fall From Grace powerbomb on the March 16 edition of Raw, it was announced that Femi and Lesnar will face off in singles action at WrestleMania 42.

Ahead of the recent NXT call-up’s WrestleMania debut, Oba Femi spoke on What’s Your Story? with Stephanie McMahon about how he stops pressure from affecting his performance.

After telling Stephanie that he treats every occasion like it means nothing, Oba explained that his time as a shot putter taught him to pretend every occasion is just practice.

Oba Femi noted:

“I was a thrower, I threw shot put for like eight years before I came to the WWE. In my eight year journey, we’d have our home base training ring, and then of course, when you compete, you’re somewhere else and you use another ring.

“Every ring is never the same, they build it slicker or there’s more friction, it’s never the same. My coach made me understand, ‘Listen, it’s the same size, it’s the same everything, you just have to go there and execute. Pretend like we’re in practice.’

“That’s something that I started doing, ‘This is the SEC Championships? No, this is practice, let’s go throw.’ That was my mindset, just attack it like it’s any other day.

“I think it’s helped me a lot, it takes a lot of the pressure off my back, and I’ve carried that same thing to the WWE ring as well. I spent three years in the Performance Center, it’s the same size ring.

“Whether its 400 (people) here at the PC, 600 at a live event, or 16,000 at Stand & Deliver, it didn’t matter to me. The only way I can really perform is if I pretend like we’re just at the PC.”

With rumors swirling about Brock Lesnar potentially retiring at SummerSlam in his hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Oba Femi vs Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania could go one of two ways.

We could either see Lesnar score a hard fought victory to maintain momentum ahead of August, or we could see a passing of the torch moment, with Femi pinning The Beast.

With Oba Femi standing on Lesnar’s chest on WWE Raw, it seems an inevitability that Femi becomes the main roster’s most dominant star, it’s only a matter of when.
