Opening Match Of AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2023 Revealed AEW

On tonight’s episode of AEW Collision (June 24) the opening match for Sunday’s pay-per-view AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door was revealed.

After Hiroshi Tanahashi took on Swerve Strickland in a match that the NJPW star eventually won (despite being visibly banged up), AEW World Champion MJF’s music hit.

However MJF did not appear in person in front of the Toronto crowd, rather appearing in a pre-taped segment in front of the Scotiabank Arena on the big screen.

Telling Tanahashi that he wouldn’t appear an extra night in Toronto just for him, he also didn’t plan on sticking around long to watch “a bunch of Indie Jabrones,” so he spoke to Tony Khan.

MJF will still be defending his AEW World Championship against Hiroshi Tanahashi but their match will go on first in the pay-per-view’s main show.

Earlier on AEW Collision, an announcement about the mystery partner for Sting and Darby Allin at Forbidden Door in their match against Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara and Minoru Suzuki.
