Original Planned Opponent For Damian Priest On WWE Raw

Last night’s WWE Raw saw Damian Priest retain the United States Title against Drew McIntyre and Sheamus in a highly-praised three-way match.

However, as we previously covered last night, there was a lot of “plans change, pal” going on backstage, and the three-way wasn’t originally what WWE had in mind.

Last week, WWE announced that Bobby Lashley vs Sheamus, The Miz vs John Morrison, and Eva Marie vs Doudrop would be taking place on last night’s show.

However, it seems that WWE is planning to go forward towards a Bobby Lashley vs Randy Orton match, which led to Lashley being moved to a tag match where he and MVP challenged RK-Bro (Orton and Riddle) for the Raw Tag Team Championship.

That left Sheamus with nothing to do, so WWE added him to what was originally going to be a Damian Priest vs Drew McIntyre singles match to make it a three-way.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said:

“It appears the decision was that they’re gonna go with Randy Orton and Bobby Lashley, so therefore they wanted Randy Orton in there with Bobby Lashley, which took Sheamus out of that match.

“And I did hear that Drew and Priest at one point was going to be a singles match, but when they took Sheamus out (of the Lashley match), Sheamus was moved and they made it into a three-way match.

“There were a million changes during the day, and at the end of the day, every match advertised didn’t happen.”

The Miz didn’t appear on the show for reasons that are currently unclear, so John Morrison lost to Omos instead.

Instead of having an official match, Doudrop attacked Eva Marie before the bell, so technically none of the three matches that were announced last week actually happened.
