Backstage Details On Original Plan For RK-Bro Split

Backstage details have emerged on the original plan for the split of RK-Bro, and the subsequent feud between Randy Orton and Matt Riddle.

Since the beginning of the RK-Bro storyline in early 2021, a high-profile match between the two Raw stars has been teased. A defining moment for the team was their Raw Tag Team Title win at SummerSlam 2021, establishing the duo as unlikely friends.

As per WrestleVotes, Riddle and Orton were originally set to face off against one another at the Biggest Party of the Summer. The split was postponed, reportedly to hold off on the singles match until WrestleMania 38.

Noting that there has been a pitch for Riddle and Orton’s eventual match to be for the WWE Championship, WrestleVotes tweeted:

“WWE had plans since the pairing began last spring for Riddle vs Randy Orton @ SummerSlam, which didn’t happen. Plan was to hold off til Mania. I’m told now only a handful of creative members want to spilt them, w/ the idea that if the match happens, it should be for the WWE title”

Riddle was originally slated to win the 2022 men’s Royal Rumble, per PWInsider. According to a separate WrestleVotes report, WWE reportedly had ‘no idea‘ what the WWE Title match at WrestleMania 38 was going to be as of Saturday’s Royal Rumble event.

Bobby Lashley is set to defend his WWE Title in an Elimination Chamber match on February 19 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
