The main event of the Hell In A Cell pay-per-view last weekend saw The Fiend Bray Wyatt challenge Seth Rollins for the Universal Championship.
Based on how over The Fiend is, many people expected him to dethrone Rollins as the Universal Champion. However, that is not what happened.
However, the match was reportedly not always supposed to end the way it did.
According to Dave Meltzer, who rated the match an abysmal minus two stars, the bout was originally supposed to end with Wyatt taking a big bump off the top of cell:
“The original idea for the finish was that Wyatt would take a gimmicked bump off the top of the cage and be unable to continue and the match would be stopped. Then, after it was stopped, he would pop up like Undertaker and take Rollins out with the mandible claw.”
It is unclear why the decision was made to change the ending.
While the match still would have ended via referee stoppage, this would have been a better ending than the one we got on Sunday night.
