A new report has discussed how Becky Lynch’s WWE return at SummerSlam differed from original plans for her to appear at the show.
The wrestling world was divided when Becky Lynch returned during the August 21 pay-per-view and pinned Bianca Belair for the SmackDown Women’s Title after two moves.
As per Andrew Zarian of The Mat Men podcast, Lynch was originally set to appear on the show, but wasn’t initially slated to win the title. Noting that Lynch’s return wasn’t the “last minute change”, Zarian said:
“I was told this was not gonna be the ending, obviously. She was gonna show up on this card. Becky Lynch was always gonna come out for this live crowd. That was not something that was last minute. The title change was the difference, that was something new. That was not planned…that was an adjustment, they made it and we’ll see where it goes on Friday.”
It was previously reported that Lynch will be working as a heel on going forward, with WWE planning to use her to elevate Bianca Belair. The Man is set to appear on Friday’s episode of SmackDown.
Brock Lesnar is also set to appear on Friday’s show, following his own return during the Biggest Party of the Summer. Following Reigns’ Universal Title defence over John Cena, Lesnar confronted Reigns in the ring, before attacking Cena after the show.
