The original plan for Chris Jericho to lose the ROH World Championship has been revealed.
Jericho dropped the title to Claudio Castagnoli in the main event of the December 10 ROH Final Battle pay-per-view, tapping out to Castagnoli’s signature swing.
The wrestling veteran had held the gold for 80 days prior to his title loss.
Per the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there were previously plans for Jericho to lose the title at the November 18 Full Gear pay-per-view.
Meltzer explained that SVP of programming on TNT & TBS Sam Linsky was originally against the idea Jericho appearing at Final Battle, but then everyone eventually ‘got on the same page’ regarding Jericho wrestling on the ROH pay-per-view.
At Full Gear, Jericho defended his ROH World Title against Castagnoli, Bryan Danielson and Sammy Guevara.
Several titles changed hands at ROH Final Battle, including the ROH Tag Team Championship, which The Briscoes won from FTR in a double dog collar match.
Dax Harwood has since reflected on this bout, calling it his masterpiece.
