Last week on Friday Night SmackDown, The Revival defeated Mustafa Ali & Shorty G, Heavy Machinery and Lucha House Party in a fun four-way elimination tag team match.
As a result, Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder will face New Day for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships at the TLC pay-per-view later on this week.
Despite this, it is believed that New Day were actually supposed to defend their belts against another team from the blue brand at the pay-per-view.
Dave Meltzer is reporting on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio that the actual plan for New Day at TLC was for them to defend their titles against the team of Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler.
However, WWE decided to change the plans once it was clear that Roode and Ziggler were busy helping King Corbin in his feud with Roman Reigns
“The idea a couple of days ago was that The New Day was going to defend against Roode and Ziggler. That was up in the air so they decided to do a four-way without Roode and Ziggler because Roode and Ziggler were occupied with Corbin and Roman Reigns.”
It would certainly make sense for Roode and Ziggler to challenge New Day. The duo managed to win the tag team battle royale for SmackDown on the Survivor Series pre-show.
