During Night 1 of the 2021 WWE Draft on last week’s SmackDown, it was revealed that WWE was once again splitting up the New Day, with Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods heading to SmackDown, with WWE Champion Big E staying on Raw.
While this was always the plan, it almost played out very differently according to a report from PWInsider.
The original plan had Bobby Lashley being selected as the number one pick for Raw, with the idea being that fans would have to tune in to last night’s Raw to see where Big E ended up. It was thought fans may think Big E would be picked by SmackDown, reuniting him with the New Day and making the world title scene very interesting.
However, it was decided well ahead of the show that Big E should be the number one pick for Raw on Night 1.
Lashley was instead the number two pick on last night’s Raw, with the honour of the number one pick going to SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch.
SmackDown’s number one picks were Roman Reigns on Night 1, and SmackDown Tag Team Champions the Usos on Night 2.
