Original WWE SummerSlam Plans For Roman Reigns Revealed

Original WWE SummerSlam Plans For Roman Reigns Revealed

Just before WrestleMania 36, Roman Reigns made the decision to remove himself from WWE TV due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

As such, he was replaced at the last minute in his Universal Championship match with Goldberg by former rival Braun Strowman.

It is believed that the original plan for WrestleMania 36 would have seen Roman Reigns defeat The Fiend Bray Wyatt at the show. However, for various reasons, plans changed.

Speaking of Roman Reigns, Ringside News is reporting that WWE had two matches in mind for the former WWE and Universal Champion at SummerSlam, and they were both against former rivals of his.

According to the site, Roman Reigns was originally pencilled in to return to WWE at SummerSlam, where he’d be facing either Braun Strowman or Bray Wyatt:

“Ringside News has learned WWE’s plans if Roman Reigns was able to make a return in time for the biggest party of the summer. We were told that there were two options being discussed for Roman Reigns. He was either going to face Bray Wyatt or Braun Strowman.

“Roman Reigns seemingly isn’t coming back in time for those matches to happen. Now Wyatt and Strowman are currently slated to face each other at SummerSlam instead.”

Taking to Twitter, Ringside News founder Steve Carrier had the following to say about WWE’s original plans for Roman at the upcoming PPV:

“Roman Reigns won’t be back by SummerSlam. We’ve been told WWE had two matches discussed for him tho, he was either facing Wyatt or Strowman. Nothing was solid, obviously. Now they’re facing each other. Funny how things work out sometimes.”

There is no word on when WWE is expecting Roman Reigns to return to TV. For the latest on that, stay tuned to WrestleTalk.com.
