WWE Name Teases ‘Starting Anew’ After Backlash 2025

WWE Name Teases ‘Starting Anew’ After Backlash 2025 WWE

Following a brutal match at WWE Backlash on May 10, Pat McAfee has teased his future, noting that we shouldn’t be “scared to end a chapter”.

McAfee lost to GUNTHER at the St. Louis, Missouri WWE Premium Live Event, although he did receive a show of respect from the former World Heavyweight Champion.

With McAfee’s role as the WWE Raw commentator for May 12 in doubt, he has now addressed his feelings following the match.

Sharing his thoughts on Twitter, McAfee would use a book metaphor to make his point, noting that we shouldn’t fear starting anew among other topics, tweeting:

“Life’s a book… each day being a page leading to the next.. phases of life come and go like chapters.. not every character/job/idea has to appear in every chapter. Some things are perfect for the story when it’s needed, and then disappear as just a fond memory. A pivotal influence to get from one era to the next…

“Don’t be scared to end a chapter and start anew.. you’re gonna have to do it eventually anyways.

“And always remember to check with the mirror every once in a while and make sure your book is one that makes you happy.. and if it’s not, change direction.. I think that you’re allowed to do that. We have NO IDEA when the final page is being written.. with no sequels. ‘Tis our only chance at this thing here.

“I appreciate you all so much for everything. I’m living the dumbest book of all time.. trying to figure it all out as I go…”

His tweet would be concluded with an intriguing hashtag further suggesting we’ve not seen or heard the last of him:

#UpToSomethingSZN

Following his match, McAfee shared a photo showing the damage he suffered following chops from GUNTHER, as can be seen below this news story.

The photo shows McAfee’s chest reddened from the heavy impact of GUNTHER’s chopping hand.

Pat McAfee is no stranger to the WWE ring, having competed at two NXT TakeOver events in 2020 before defeating Austin Theory in his in-ring main roster debut at WrestleMania 38 in 2022.

During his time in WWE, all of McAfee’s main roster matches have taken place at Premium Live Events.
