Pete Dunne Headlines NXT Live!

WWE United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne surprised fans at an NXT live event in Asbury Park, New Jersey last night when he headlined the show in a title defense against the Velveteen Dream.

While the champion retained the strap following a thunderous Bitter End, the match featured interference by Liverpool native Zack Gibson and Moustache Mountain in advance of the ‘Bruiserweight’ putting the gold on the line against the former on next week’s episode of NXT. That will be recorded in advance of NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn IV this evening.

Pete Dunne’s reign with the championship currently stands at an impressive 455 days and should he drop the gold to Gibson this evening, which many predict as NXT UK are relying on the scouser to be their main heel, his reign will have lasted 459 days by the time it airs Wednesday night. However, such a momentous moment really shouldn’t be given away on television.

Undoubtedly, Pete has been one of the most impressive champions of the last decade.

In other results from the card:

  • The War Raiders best Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch in Lorcan’s return to the yellow brand following injury
  • Zack Gibson best Dominik Dijackovic
  • Deonna Purrazzo and Dakota Kai cracked Bianca Belair and Lacey Evans
  • Johnny Gargano overcame Lars Sullivan via disqualification. After the bout, Tommaso Ciampa appeared to taunt his challenger but was met with a superkick.
  • Adam Cole rolled over EC3 to retain the NXT North American Championship
  • Shayna Baszler tapped out Kairi Sane to retain the NXT Women’s Championship
