Plans For WWE Night Of Champions 2023 Revealed? WWE

It seems we now have a bit more insight into plans for the 2023 WWE Night of Champions event from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Night of Champions takes place on May 27, just three weeks removed from tomorrow night’s WWE Backlash show.

We already knew Night of Champions was set to play host to the final of a tournament to determine the “first ever” (new) WWE World Heavyweight Champion, but now we have a bit more to go off.

WWE has now added a list of advertised names to the Night of Champions event page on its official website, likely revealing these names will be on the show.

The most notable is WWE Undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns, so it looks like that’ll be his in-ring comeback after winning the main event of WrestleMania 39 against Cody Rhodes.

With the WWE Draft rosters not in effect until after Backlash, there’s been no hint at Reigns’ next opponent, but unless the draft was completely pointless, it’ll be someone from the new look SmackDown roster.

Also advertised for Night of Champions are SmackDown Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley, Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair, Intercontinental Champion Gunther, and United States Champion Austin Theory.

If all of those names do indeed make the journey to Saudi Arabia, it’ll be Gunther’s first time working there.

Of course the lineup is subject to change, but WWE has just now made a point of adding all of those names and we’re only three weeks away from the show happening.

Two champions that aren’t advertised and won’t be making the trip are the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens.

WWE Night of Champions was originally supposed to be WWE King and Queen of the Ring, but the decision was made to change the name and obviously not do the King and Queen of the Ring tournaments to facilitate the introduction of the aforementioned new WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

With Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns being on SmackDown, the new title will be the top championship on Raw.

WWE also made a couple of big adjustments to its advertised lineup for Money in the Bank in London on July 1 – adding Roman Reigns, but removing Drew McIntyre.
