Last night on Friday Night SmackDown, Shinsuke Nakamura pinned Daniel Bryan, King Corbin and Rey Mysterio clean in the Gauntlet match that closed out the show.
Nakamura was then attacked by both Jey Uso and Roman Reigns before being pinned by Adam Pearce. In winning the gauntlet, Pearce earnt a shot at Universal Champion Roman Reigns for the Royal Rumble.
This was very good booking from SmackDown in building the Reigns and Pearce, and some have also speculated that the pieces are being put into place for Shinsuke Nakamura to turn babyface.
The booking of Shinsuke Nakamura last night would make you think that he was a babyface rather than a heel, and some have theorised if he is going to turn to set up a feud with Roman Reigns in the build-up to WrestleMania 37.
Shinsuke Nakamura turned heel at WrestleMania 34 back in 2018 after losing a WWE Championship match at AJ Styles on the “grandest stage of them all”. He hasn’t been booked as a babyface since.
