On last night’s episode of AEW: Dynamite, a lot of people got very excited about a number of things which appeared to point towards a possible working relationship between AEW and NJPW.
The biggest of these potential hints was former IWGP Heavyweight Champion and most handsome man in wrestling, Hiroshi Tanahashi appearing on screen to congratulate Chris Jericho on 30 years in wrestling.
Another of these hints was Jon Moxley frequently referencing his Texas Deathmatch with Lance Archer at Wrestle Kingdom 14 in a promo for their title match on next week’s Dynamite.
Excalibur namedropped both NJPW and head booker Gedo while on commentary, but according to Dave Meltzer at least, we shouldn’t be getting our hopes up just yet.
According to Meltzer, Chris Jericho is just a massive fan of Tanahashi, which is likely why the Japanese legend made an appearance.
Not necessarily, that was Jericho’s doing. He loves Tanahashi. Ultimo Dragon was on as well. https://t.co/SDgsNULf2r

However, since the announcement that Harold Meij was stepping down as NJPW President on October 23, rumours have once again started in relation to a possible AEW/NJPW working relationship in the future.
Tony Khan was recently quoted as saying Meij’s departure could be a good thing for a future working relationship between AEW and NJPW.
“I’m not sure yet. But my initial gut feeling is it could be good.”
