Possible Date For CM Punk Vs Hiroshi Tanahashi AEW Vs NJPW Match AEW

The possible date for a CM Punk vs Hiroshi Tanahashi AEW vs NJPW match has been revealed following Punk’s injury announcement.

Following Punk’s AEW World Title win at Double or Nothing, Tanahashi made a surprise appearance on the June 1 episode of Dynamite to confront the new champ, setting up a bout for Forbidden Door on June 26.

After Punk’s injury announcement on Rampage, AEW announced an interim World Championship Eliminator Series to determine the match for the interim title, which will happen at Forbidden Door.

Speaking with Tokyo Sports, Tanahashi has suggested that he and Punk should face off on January 4, 2023 at Wrestle Kingdom. Tanahashi said:

“In addition, we will propose (1/4) Tokyo Dome, the biggest box office of the year in New Japan, on the stage of the dream confrontation that once flowed. As a punk, I think I could borrow one. I have a feeling that I want to call him to Japan. I also go to (the United States) many times, so come at a special price.”

On Dynamite (June 8), Jon Moxley will face the winner of that night’s battle royal to determine the competitor that will meet Tanahashi or Goto on June 26. AEW President Tony Khan has clarified exactly why Moxley received a bye in the eliminator series.
