Per Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Akam and Rezar of AoP made their first live event appearance of the year at the July 7th house show in Glenn Falls, New York.
Before Akam injured his knee, he and Rezar were members of the Raw brand, even holding the Raw Tag Team Championships for 35 days.
However, as advertised, the pair made their tag team return on a Smackdown house show. This could imply that the pair will be on the blue brand upon their return to TV.
The former NXT Tag Team Champions teamed on the house show to taken on Ali and Matt Hardy. Despite being quite well protected before Akam’s injury, AoP lost their return match.
What is more staggering is who they lost to. The duo were bested by the unlikely pairing of Ali and Matt Hardy.
While unlikely pairings do sometimes team together on house shows, the fact that they beat a returning team who are usually quite well protected might indicate that WWE plans on having Matt Hardy and the former 205 Live star team together on television in the future while brother Jeff is out injury.
